For the top part I had students look at their reflection in the concave and convex side of a spoon and describe what they saw. 

On the bottom we talked about the difference between transparent, translucent, and opaque.

Hey!
I think you've got lenses confused with mirrors.
Sides of a spoon is act like a mirror.

Convex mirrors bend light rays outwards, and concave mirrors bend light rays inwards (most of the time).
Convex lenses bend light rays inwards, and concave lenses bend light rays outwards.
